New Year's Resolutions
It's that time of year when Christmas festivities have slowed down and we finally have quiet moments to reflect upon the past twelve months and what adventures the next year may hold. While we here at Rey Swimwear should probably cut back on the sugar (who keeps bringing those cupcakes in?!?), as I dream of the future, here are some of my goals for 2017 that I hope might help you approach the year to come:
Letting Go: How often are you worried about what your friends, classmates, coworkers, or your social media followers think of you? How often do we freak out because we said the wrong thing at a party or messed up in a presentation. We can all live a more joyful life if we learn to let go and to be comfortable with ourselves. Five years ago, I never EVER thought I'd still be designing/selling swimsuits today. I am thankful to be able to help my fellow ladies feel comfortable, confident, and beautiful in a swimsuit. Most of us, including myself, feel completely vulnerable in a swimsuit- but many of you have shared stories of 'letting go' of that need to look and feel what the media portrays as beautiful (aka perfectly flawless) and to be able to simply relax, enjoy your hard earned vacation, and KNOW that you are beautiful. This year, I hope to give you more opportunities to be yourself -- not only through swimsuits, but through a full line-up of clothes as well.
Transparency: People use social media filters in order to make things look more beautiful because, hey, who doesn't want to experience beauty? However, deep down, our hearts yearn for true beauty- that which is unfiltered, unedited, and truly transparent. As you know, I am a believer in ethical fashion. I'm sure some of you have read the horror stories about sweatshops abroad AND in the USA. We never have and never will work with a sweatshop. While we have also been using fabrics knit in sweatshop-free mills, we are broadening our quest for ethical fashion in 2017 by using fabrics knit with yarn that is made from 100% regenerated post consumer waste. My goal is to continue finding ways to produce more meaningful clothing while respecting both people and the environment. I'll be sharing my findings and our new processes along the way- providing more transparency for you.
Human Dignity: We are valuable human beings- each of us unique and worthy of respect. The more I learn about human trafficking, the more I am horrified and feel the need to do something about it. I know there is something Rey Swimwear can do to make an impact and help to stop this modern day slavery. I always say that we stand to protect the dignity of all people and am looking for a way to get more involved. If you have an idea or know a non-profit/business that makes a difference in this area, please do share!
As 2016 comes to an end, I send you my deepest gratitude for being on this adventure with us and lots of love for a prosperous new year!

Love your heart. I had the same awakening about human trafficking in 2012 and struggled to find organizations who were on the ground and in the fight to eliminate it. After much prayer and research, our family has partnered with Exodus Road. I encourage you to check them out at theexodusroad.com They work with local authorities and other agencies and are making great strides in the areas of investigation, recovery, prosecution, and aftercare. They work overseas AND in the USA. Prayers to you and happy new year!
