Jessica's Picks: Combating Dry Winter Weather

January 10, 2020 1 Comment

I often travel to dry climates for business and used to have such a hard time adjusting, it would ruin my entire trip. I mean skin so dry, it hurts and waking up with nose bleeds from the lack of moisture. The heater is necessary (at least for this California girl), but it sucks all the moisture out of the air and just makes things worse. These are my 5 picks for surviving the dry winter air:

1. Travel humidifier

This tiny unit packs a big punch (or mist). I put it right next to the bed when I'm sleeping and use a 1L Fiji water bottle, which lasts me until morning. The biggest difference for me is waking up without a dry throat and bloody nose, especially if I'm traveling to the desert. It's really small and travels easily. (I do use a full-size humidifier at home- let me know if you want to know which one).

2. Nasal spray

I am well-aware that this nasal spray is made for babies, but I have yet to find one for adults that doesn't contain a bunch of chemicals that I don't necessarily want in my nose (or that doesn't burn when I spray it). I particularly use this spray when I'm on airplanes and in trains. My nose gets so dry with the circulating air, so I keep this in my purse when I feel like I can't breathe. It also helps with sinus headaches if you're prone to those as well.

Bonus- it's only 3oz. so you can take it in your carry-on.

3. MSM eye drops

The last thing I need when my eyes are dry is to put eye drops in them that burn. These MSM drops are truly the only ones I've tried that actually provide relief from the dryness and redness without hurting my poor eyes.

4. Exfoliating necessities- I find that many people with dry skin will just keep moisturizing and moisturizing, but that doesn't help much if they're not getting rid of the dry, flaky skin first. These are my must-have's for exfoliation:

Korean Scrub Glove- I use this in the shower with my body wash. It's pretty abrasive and takes getting used to, but if you've ever been to a Korean spa, you know that these gloves work!

Capri coconut oil exfoliator- this exfoliator is gentle enough for your face, but powerful enough to slough off any dry skin that shouldn't be there. It is exfoliating as well as moisturizing.

And as always, remember to stay hydrated - drink plenty of water, especially if it's hot outside. Some say that coconut water is better for hydration, but I can't stand the taste so I stick to plain old filtered water.

I’m not a fan of coconut water either (yuck), but I love coconuts. Weird. Trying to cut down on so much soda too as it just dries me out. Been drinking be water with a squeeze of lemon and/or lime in it.

Love the fit!

I have a small bust compared to my hips, and a longer torso, so it’s pretty challenging to find a one-piece that doesn’t give me a huge wedgie. I got the size small in the Pear shaped swimsuit; my measurements are 34”-31”-38”, and a size small fits great. Thank you for making swimsuits for a range of bodies!!

Family vacation

I needed a swimsuit with more coverage for a family reunion trip and this swim dress fit the bill. I got so many compliments and the colors are just stunning. The pics don't do it justice.

Perfect sizing

I am a medium on top and a large on bottom and I appreciate that I can order two different sizes. It's a perfect fit.

Bestt birthday gift

My husband gave this to me for my birthday for a trip he booked for us and I am surprised at how well it fits. The fabric is buttery soft and I love the different ways to wear the straps. I'll send pics from hawaii!

Beautiful!

I have two other Marie's (the regular bust) and this one fits so much better for my DD cup. It has the perfect amount of coverage for me.
